Prevent and Treat Diaper Rashes

We all know how soft and delicate baby skin is, so there are many types of conditions that are seen in very young babies. One of the most common skin conditions that affects babies is diaper rash, which causes red, irritated skin under the diaper area. No one wants to see their babies suffer and be uncomfortable, so it is important to prevent and treat rashes as quickly and effectively as possible by following these steps:

  • Keep diaper area clean
  • Change diapers as soon as it’s wet or soiled
  • Wait until area is completely dry before putting on another diaper
  • Allow for plenty of diaper-free time to allow area to air out
  • When bathing, use fragrance and alcohol-free shampoos to avoid further irritation
  • A soft washcloth or squirt bottle with warm water should be used, especially to clean severe rashes
  • Apply a zinc oxide diaper ointment in between diaper changes to treat the irritated skin

Babies have such delicate skin that it is important to be very gentle and avoid any type of rubbing of the skin.
